Overall, half of the 88 flats have changed hands, raising almost £1 billion.
The penthouses cost £140 million each. Each square foot of One Hyde Park costs at least £6000, a record for residential property anywhere in the world.
One Hyde Park boasts bomb-proof windows, panic rooms, a private cinema, swimming pool, saunas, gymnasium, virtual reality games; a private underground tunnel to the Mandarin Oriental, that gives residents 24-hour access to 5-star facilities and a 60 strong army of hotel staff.
It was reported by John Arlidge in the Sunday Times on January 23rd 2011, that on the previous Wednesday..... "Shortly after 11 am, conga lines of black Mercedes Benz limousines and the occasional black cab began pulling up outside One Hyde Park, the new £1 billion residential development. In the winter sunshine stepped what looked like the United Nations of Wealth. There were gazillionaires from Qatar, Dubai and Abu Dhabi; Russian oligarchs and Indian Bollygarchs; City grandees, including Lord Fink, the hedge fund guru and Ken Costa of Lazards; Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One's ringmaster; and the society jeweller Theo Fennell. The event began with champagne at One Hyde Park, then limousines wafted the guests 200 yards to the Mandarin Oriental for lunch, cooked by Heston Blumenthal, the three-Michelin star chef."
The Sunday Times went on to say;
"A short walk from One Hyde Park is Mayfair, the centre of the world for the super-elite.
The plush serviced offices in Berkeley Square; restaurants and clubs in Mount Street; hotels in Brook Street; boutiques in Bond Street; and good schools nearby, combined with the English language, London's convenient time zone, still low taxes [at least for the non-doms, which many of the superclass are], and Britain's refusal to join the Euro, have attracted so many globocrats, that the area might as well be a separate State; "Richistan" as Robert Frank the US author likes to call it."
This is the area around the opulent One Hyde Park in London SW1.
It looks like another shrewd investment by Qatar Holding and the Qatar Investment Authority.
